• 5.0 out of 5 stars from M. Regalado -- Updated edition. In a word, wonderful. : For what I could read in the sample I've asked for, the orthography is updated and the formatting is perfect. You may forget the comments that criticize the edition, certainly they were true when witten, but do not apply anymore. Reading "Os Lusíadas" is a permanent enchantment and a source of enrichment. Camoes captured the knowledge and the atmosphere of the world of his time and render them to us in a way that only the great poets can do. ( Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2015 )

• 4.0 out of 5 stars from anonymousman -- Great free edition : I kind of chuckle when I read the other reviews. The book contains no spelling or conversion errors, it is simply written in old Portuguese orthography (much like reading Shakespeare where you see the letter v used in place of the modern u and so on). If you spend some time you can read it just as easily as modern Portuguese. If you want to read Portuguese language texts prior to the 1940s, expect the old orthography. I have found the same in works by Machado de Assis, Eça de Quieróz, etc.). The only reason that I don't give it five stars is that the stanzas aren't numbered which, if you are reading in a group or class, makes it hard to be on the same page as others. This edition is terribly out of date -- e.g. "LUSIADAS" is written "LVSIADAS", "praia" is written "praya", "tiveram" is written "tiuerão", "espalharei" is written "e'palharey", "&" is used instead of "e". This kind of writing might interest for those who study the Portiguese language in other periods, but for people interested in the work itself, the archaic Portuguese is often unpleasant. • 1.0 out of 5 stars from Leitora -- Terrible Edition!!!! : Camões work is a masterpiece and I review here not his work, but this Kindle edition of Lusiadas. Unfortunately this free edition is a shame for Kindle. Just because it is free it shouldn't be such a mindless job. It is very hard to understand the text because it is full of mistakes, letters missing or replaced by strange symbols, probably due to automatic scanning with no post review whatsoever. Pitty.
